PART 2:SELF-ASSESSMENT OF
ACADEMIC PROGRAM UNDER AUN-QA STANDARDS

PART 3:
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES ANALYSIS

A. STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, AND IMPROVEMENT PLANS

CRITERIA STRENGTHS WEAKNESSES IMPROVEMENT PLANS
CRITERION 1. EXPECTED LEARNING OUCOMES The FIS has a mission, a vision, and goals that are clear and consistent with those of the UEL. The training objectives of the Faculty are specific and clearly meet the labor market requirements. In addition, the study program is built according to the CDIO approach; therefore the expected learning outcomes focus on encouraging lifelong learning. Moreover, they are expressed specifically in the set of expected learning results at the program level: each course has clearly defined the expected academic results at the course level and how to convey the expected learning outcomes to the content of the course, the curriculum plan and the course assessment. Expressed by the survey results, expected learning results do not fully meet the specific requirements of some businesses.

By 2020-2021, the FIS will implement CDIO approach on all courses and convert teaching and learning activities on the University's e-learning system. Since then, it ensures the level of achievement of the expected learning results improved, better meet the requirements of organizations and businesses.

CRITERION 2. PROGRAM SPECIFICATION

The curriculum of the Faculty is designed on the basis of meeting the needs of stakeholders; referenced from prestigious study programs of domestic and foreign university. The program provides a full range of professional knowledge as well as skills for graduates (based on survey results from Researchers, Enterprises, Alumni, and Students); and is updated once every 2 years.

The program description is published to stakeholders and revised every two years through various media channels.

The study program is publicly announced and transmitted to students from the first year (through the introductory course), and is regularly updated to students through academic advisors of each class and the faculty's student advisory department.

Although the description of the study program is made public, the students still do not really pay attention, understand and apply well. Besides, the study program does not have a connection with international university to learn and exchange students.

Continue to promote the role of academic advisors and student advisors in transmitting and explaining; organizing career orientation workshop for students about updated and specific information of the study program.

Participate in evaluating the Study Program of Information System Management under AUN-QA and work with other international universities.

CRITERION 3. STRUCTURE AND CONTENT OF PROGRAM

The study program of the MIS is designed and built according to the CDIO approach from 2016 and began to apply for the academic year 2016 - 2017.

Expected learning outcomes of the study program are clear, consistent with the university's goals, mission and vision as well as the feedback of its stakeholders. The expected learning outcomes, teaching and assessment methods of the course are built in conjunction with the expected academic results.

The study program is designed based on CDIO and AUN criteria, which ensures a sufficient supply of necessary knowledge and skills, professional practice capacity is built up gradually over each semester. The study program is adjusted periodically every 2 years (with minor changes) and every 4 years (with major changes) based on the survey of stakeholders.

The MIS is a relatively new program in Vietnam and has specific characteristics associated with changes in technology, new business and management models. Knowledge, skills, and professional capacity are constantly changing each year, so the program is not always timely updated.

Regularly review to update the program; continue to standardize the program and conduct study programs assessment according to AUN criteria to enhance the reputation of the program as well as the Faculty and University; positioning leading training in the field of MIS.

CRITERION 4. TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGY

The teaching plan is designed detailedly in the course syllabus as required by the CDIO standards. Therefore, each course syllabus clearly shows the teaching and learning methods, the content and teaching plan in theory and practice.

Teaching and learning methods are applied in a variety of ways, and built in a student-centered manner, taking advantages of the technical facilities and equipment such as projectors and classrooms as CDIO standard.

Methods of teaching and learning are closely linked to scientific research. Courses from the university or higher level have the form of assessment through the course project. Good projects are encouraged to develop into projects for final exams (the implementation team will answer questions on the project instead of writing as usual), the exemption projects continue to be encouraged to develop into the topic of scientific research and graduation thesis. As a result, in recent years, the MIS program has had high-ranking scientific research students' prizes at major exams.

With large class sizes, technology infrastructure and facilities are barriers to apply modern teaching methods.

University of Economics and Law is gradually adding and modernizing facilities, improving learning conditions for students. Specifically, in September 2017, the B1 building was put into operation, and promptly met the needs of study and working spaces. Increasing bandwidth for information technology infrastructure to deploy well-specialized courses.

CRITERION 5. STUDENT ASSESSMENT

The forms of tests and assessments are carried out and monitored according to a clear procedure from the Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance. This office is also responsible for publicly announcing information related to each student.

The percentage of partial scrore in course assessment is flexible according to the course syllabus followed by CDIO standards. This flexibility allows an increase in the assessment of skill aspects (through Formative assessmentand group project points) in specific courses.

The team of young academic staff is willing to enthusiastically apply a wide range of examination and evaluation.

Due to the class size, many forms of evaluation have not been applied well.

Exam questions and detailed answers have not been published.

Try to reduce class size and implement a full range of tests and assessments.

The Faculty will review and plan to publish exam questions and detailed answers on e-learning so that students can review and learn from experience.

Time: 2021-2025

Persons in charge: FIS and Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assuarance

CRITERION 6. LECTURER QUALITY

The academic staff are trained from different sources, both at home and abroad.

Faculty has an average age of young, easy access to new technologies, applying new teaching methods. Many academic staff have experience working in organizations.

The management according to the results of the academic staff' work, and workload are well-implemented thanks to the information technology systems. In addition, it is strictly monitored by other Departments.

The Department's international relations in recent years have been improved. However, it is still not enough to implement programs combining teaching, lecturer exchange, and student exchange. The percentage of academic staff with doctoral degrees is still low.

In the period of 2020 - 2025, the Faculty is expected to have 5-7 academic staff to complete the doctoral program, and all academic staff who are currently holding a master's degree must plan to improve their academic degrees according to the policy. In addition, the Faculty also plans to recruit at least 2 academic staff with a doctorate or higher degree. Also, during this period, the Faculty also plans to expand international relations with other countries.

The Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance regularly carries out surveys from students at the end of each course.

The process of designing and developing study programs is carried out according to CDIO standards under the quality supervision of the Office of Educational Testing and Quality Assurance of the University and the VNU-HCM.

The quality of services and equipment as well as the e-learning system of the university are increasingly upgraded.

The survey results do not clearly reflect the quality of teaching. It is because the courses of the survey have not been classified according to their academic ability and level of student attendance in each one.

Develop a set of criteria to evaluate teaching effectiveness, in addition to course survey results. Implement attendance forms and measures to monitor the students' awareness and attendance. The form of attendance should meet the criteria of ease of implementation and quickness.
